Odell, the Oregonian lake
Odell lake is in Klamath County on Highway 58 near the Cascade crest.
The lake is about 4836 feet above sea level, 6 miles long, 1.5 miles wide, up to 282 feet deep in places, and is fringed around by coniferous woodland. It was created as a result of the last Ice Age and was named in July 1865 after William Holman Odell, a pioneer and surveyor, originally from Indiana.
In summer the lake is popular with experienced anglers and boaters/sailors and in winter the area around is good for winter sports. There are trails in the vicinity and accommodation.
A view looking from the lake to the east along Odell creek. The trails going along the creek are little more than deer trails, but it is said they lead to some of the most beautiful places ever seen.
One of the cabins at the Odell Lake Resort. Most, like this, date from the mid/late 1940's, with cabin 12, the original lodge, dating from 1912.
Out on the lake, making for the North shore. Winds are often 20-25 mph.
